What to say when slaughtering or sacrificing an animal

It is reported that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sacrificed two white horned rams with his own hand, placing his foot on their sides, he would say:

"In the name of Allah, and Allah is the Greatest. O Allah, [this is] from You and to You — O Allah, accept it from so-and-so."

Instead of "so-and-so" one names the person on whose behalf the sacrifice is offered (e.g., "accept it from me" — taqabbal minni).

[Muslim 1966, 1967; Abu Dawud 2795]
