Supplication when visiting the graves

"Peace be upon you, O inhabitants of these dwellings, among the believers and Muslims. Truly, Allah willing, we shall join you. [May Allah have mercy on those of us who have gone before, and those who are yet to come.] I ask Allah for well-being for us and for you."

"Well-being" (‘āfiya) — safety from every evil in this world and the next. The bracketed clause about earlier and later departures is from one of the narrations in Muslim.

[Muslim 2255, 2256, 2257; Ibn Majah 1547; Sahih Sunan Ibn Majah 1267]
