Supplication when mounting an animal or any means of transport

‘Ali ibn Rabi‘ah related that he saw ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib رضي الله عنه, when mounting his riding animal, say "Bismi-Llah" as he placed his foot in the stirrup, "Al-hamdu li-Llah" once he was seated, and then say:

"Glory to Him Who has subjected this to us, and we would not have been capable of it; and truly to our Lord we will return. Praise be to Allah, praise be to Allah, praise be to Allah. Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest. Glory be to You, O Allah — I have wronged myself, so forgive me, for truly none forgives sins but You."

Then ‘Ali رضي الله عنه laughed. He was asked: "O Commander of the Believers, what made you laugh?" He replied: "I saw the Prophet ﷺ do just as I have done, then he laughed, and I asked: 'What makes you laugh, O Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'Truly your Lord is pleased when His servant says, «Forgive me my sins» — for he knows that none forgives sins but Me.'"
