Seeking forgiveness and repentance

Allah the Exalted said: "O you who believe, turn to Allah in sincere repentance. Perhaps your Lord will remove your misdeeds from you and admit you into gardens beneath which rivers flow." (66:8).

Allah the Exalted also said: "Seek forgiveness of your Lord and turn to Him in repentance; He will grant you good enjoyment for an appointed term." (11:3, 52).

Allah the Exalted also said: "And those who, when they commit immorality or wrong themselves, remember Allah and seek forgiveness for their sins — and who can forgive sins except Allah? — and do not persist in what they have done while they know." (3:135).

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "By Allah, I seek forgiveness from Allah and turn to Him in repentance more than seventy times each day." [al-Bukhari 6307].

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "O people, repent to Allah, for I repent to Him a hundred times a day." [Muslim 2702].

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The closest a servant is to his Lord is when he is prostrating, so supplicate abundantly!" [Muslim 482].

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever says these words, his sins will be forgiven, even if he had fled from the battlefield":

"I seek forgiveness from Allah, beside whom there is no god — the Ever-Living, the Sustainer — and I turn to Him in repentance."

[Abu Dawud 1517; at-Tirmidhi 3577; Sahih Sunan at-Tirmidhi 3/182]
