Duas for the deceased, funerals, and visiting graves

Duas for the deceased and at funerals: instruction for the dying, words at a loss, the funeral prayer (janazah), condolence, placing in the grave, and visiting the cemetery.

Death is a teacher. The Prophet ﷺ taught us how to instruct the dying, how to bury, and how to visit graves — turning grief into service.

The chapters gathered here cover: the instruction for the dying (talqin), the dua for one afflicted by calamity, closing the eyes of the deceased, the funeral prayer (janazah), the dua for a deceased child, condolence (taziyah), placing the deceased in the grave, after burial, and visiting the graves.

Each element comes with the Arabic text, translation, and source (al-Bukhari, Muslim, an-Nasa'i and others).

Five supplications on this theme are set down in the Quran. The istirja (2:156) is said at a loss; Yusuf (peace be upon him) asks to have his soul taken as a Muslim and to be joined with the righteous (12:101); 3:193 and 7:126 ask for the soul to be taken among the devout; 40:7–9 is the supplication of the angels for the believers. This is the text of the Book, not a report transmitted through hadith.
