Duas for parents — living and departed
Duas for parents from the Quran: "My Lord, have mercy on them both as they brought me up when I was small" (17:24), and the pleas of Ibrahim and Nuh for their parents.
The Quran gives the formula of the supplication for parents itself, and places it directly after the command to treat them well: "My Lord, have mercy on them both as they brought me up when I was small" (17:24).
Beside it stand three supplications in which parents are named together with the other believers: the plea of Ibrahim (peace be upon him), "our Lord, forgive me, my parents and the believers on the Day the reckoning is established" (14:41); his request for forgiveness for his father (26:83–87); and the supplication of Nuh (peace be upon him) for his parents, his household and the whole community (71:28). The supplication of one who reaches forty (46:15) asks for gratitude for the favour bestowed on him and on his parents.
The Sunnah collection on this site has no chapter of its own on parents, so this page is entirely Quranic: five supplications, each with its sura and ayah, the Arabic text with diacritics and a word-by-word translation. These are words set down in the Book of Allah, and any of them can be checked against the mushaf.
