Salawat upon the Prophet ﷺ: text, translation, and when to recite
Salawat upon the Prophet ﷺ: the words of blessing in the tashahhud and after the adhan, with Arabic text, word-by-word translation, audio, and the source.
Allah commanded that blessings be called down upon the Prophet ﷺ: "Indeed, Allah and His angels bless the Prophet. O you who believe, invoke blessings upon him and greet him with peace" (33:56).
In the Sunnah the salawat is not detached from the prayer — it stands inside it. Its principal place is the tashahhud, where after the greetings to Allah come the words of blessing upon the family of Muhammad ﷺ as they were said upon the family of Ibrahim. Its second place is directly after the adhan, of which it is said that whoever invokes blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ on hearing the call, Allah blesses him tenfold [Muslim 849].
Gathered here are those words with the Arabic text, a word-by-word translation and the source, together with the chapters in which they are said in their place.
